This issue has been solved. See solution.

I am running Windows 7 RC and am trying to install the EV Admin tool.  When it check the prerequisites during setup, it errors with: Enterprise Vault requires Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 or greater.  Is there any way to bypass these checks and force the install?

EV must be installed on a

EV must be installed on a OS Server, not on a client. As test you can use a virtual machine which installed Windows Server 2003 sp2 or WS2008. I think you can't have a positive respond for your question.

Actually that is incorrect

Actually that is incorrect you can install the VAC onto a client and administer Vault from the client. I did have this working on my test system on XP and remember certain software had to be installed for it to work.
This is obviously not a supported situation but I do have a windows 7 client that I was playing with the other day so will see if I can get the VAC installed at all.

So I installed the

So I installed the VAC successfully on my WIndows 7 client and so did the following:-

1. Ran setup.exe and installed the administrative tools
2. Installed Windows 2003 Admin Pack (Pre Req)
3. Rebooted
4. Logged on as VSA and connected to Directory Service and had a fully working VAC.

One stumbling block I did run into was that I first got an error stating that the MMC could not load the snap-in. To get round this a just reinstalled after a reboot.

I got nothing about pre-requisites so the moral of this test is yes it will work.

Cheers.....Paul.

What versions of EV and

What versions of EV and Windows 7 were you using?  I am assuming VAC stands for Vault Admin Console or similar....

Yes you have the acronym

Yes you have the acronym correct. In my test I was using EV 2007 SP5 but the EV version would be irrelevant really. Regarding Windows 7 when I run the ver command it gives me 6.1.7000 and it is Windows 7 Ultimate but again I would think that client version would again not be relevant.

You only get the option of

You only get the option of administration console when you run setup on a client. Well that is what you should get.

yeah, that is what it is

yeah, that is what it is supposed to do.  :)  That is what happens when I run it on my XP but i was just curious if running it on Win 7 was maybe doing something a bit different.

My install errors before I

My install errors before I even get to the point of selecting the Administration Console.  I can setup another test instance of Windows 7 and try the install again, but I am wondering if there is, in fact, a difference in the EV versions.

Successful install - How To

I was just about to write up my failed attempt on the test machine when I decided to try something else.  Although I didn't think it would make a difference, I copied the install folder down to the local machine and ran setup.  It failed as expected, but I got a Program Compatablity Assistant pop up from Windows which identified that the program did not install correctly.  I chose "Reinstall using recommended settings" and this time I got an error about DCOM, so I turned off Windows Firewall and ran the install again, and it did complete successfully.  I did the same procedure on my production PC with the same positive results.  The moral of this story: run the install from a local copy to get it to run in compatability mode for it  to install in Windows 7.  This did not require a reboot nor the Admin Pack as mentioned previously (possibly different reqs with EV 8.0.1).
