Windows 7 Readiness
Hello All,
Wow, things have changed since I last used the Wise forums! Just a brief background. I worked for a co. for two years, but due to economic hard times, I was let go last January. However, I was lucky enough to be called back so I'm working with their installations again.
Now, onto my issue(s)/question(s)...
They have been receiving calls that their current installation is not running properly/to completion on the new Windows 7 OS. Unfortunately, since today is my first day back, I haven't gotten any specifics nor have I been able to log the install yet. Anyway, I'm currently using Wise Installation Studio 7.3.0.250 and was wondering if there is a newer version that creates installations that might be more Win 7 friendly.
Again, I'll need to get more details on my end, obviously, but I just wanted to maybe get some info on installation problems that may be out there involving installations that may have been created with this version of Installation Studio.
Thanks in advance for any info, advice, pointers, etc! I Greatly Appreciate them....
And - HAPPY TO BE BACK!
Your version is still current
Hi SF3,
No sign of any update to WIS 7 SP1 yet.
Win 7 has many of the same issues/limitations that Vista displayed, so if you're not already up to speed on those, check the Altiris KB on Vista for the Wise products.
As you already have noted, logging the install is the next step.
Do you have a Windows 7 test machine or virtual machine on which you can try the install?

Yeah, QA has a test machine
Yeah, QA has a test machine with Win 7 I believe.
Along with the bug report I recieved was a log file that indicated a 1721 error. I think the problem is that it was a custom action that should have been conditioned to run on VISTA/Win 7 (>=600), but it was running for OS's < than VISTA.
I have turned something over to QA to verify, but I told them to hold off pending other issue resolutions.
1721
The 1721 error is basically telling you that the script crashed. Although this could happen if the script was intended only to run on operating systems greater than version 600, it does also suggest that the script itself is not error trapping reliably. In an ideal world, the script should be able to detect invalid targets and exit gracefully, rather than crashing. No doubt you will soon get to the bottom of the problem and later share it with us.
