  • 1.  Windows 7 sysprep problems with Ghost Console 11.5.1.2266

    Posted Oct 04, 2010 04:58 PM

I am trying to run sysprep (using Ghost Console) & gather an image on a client PC that is running Windows 7 Pro. I'm using Ghost Console v11.5.1.2266 to sysprep/gather the image and the client PC is running Symantec Ghost Console Client v115.01.2266. I have Ghost Console pointing to an .xml answer file to go through the sysprep process.

The issue I'm having is that about 15-20 mins after I start the process, the Ghost Console Client crashes on the client system and I have no idea why. I've tried multiple things to get this to work with absolutely no luck.

Jumping back to the Ghost server and looking in the Ghost Console event log it shows me that all of these steps have run "SUCCESSFULLY":

    1) File(s) updated on client

    2) Updating PreOS files

    3) Copy sysprep to client

    4) File(s) updated on client

    5) File(s) updated on client

    6) To Virtual Partition

It is at step 7 that everything fails, Step 7 is:

    7) Run Sysprep

If I look at the client PC I notice that Ghost client isn't communicating any longer and it looks like my network connection also has crashed.

So, I took a looked in the client PC's event viewer and it looks to me that this is the error that may be causing my problems:

    Source:        Microsoft-Windows-Security-SPP
    Event ID:      8212
    Level:         Error
Description: Rearm failed for AppId = 55c92734-d682-4d71-983e-d6ec3f16059f, SkuId = (null) - 0 Rearms Remaining.  Error Code: 0xC004D307

    Additional event viewer entries show:

    Event ID:      10010
    Level:         Error
Description: The server {9E175B6D-F52A-11D8-B9A5-505054503030} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

Any advice/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Please try with rearm option uncheck in the syspreped configuration setting in Console. I hope you are trying xml with appropriate operating system platform selection (32 bit or 64 bit according to your client os platform).

I am using an .xml answer file with 32 bit OS. I do not see a place to uncheck the rearm option in Ghost Console. Where exactly would that be? I'm new to sysprepping with Ghost Console.

    thanks for helping me out!

Open Ghost Console. It is under configuration resources-->sysprep configuration in the left panel of Console. I hope in that case your client machine is 32 bit and not 64 bit.

At first I couldn't find where you were talking about for the rearm setting. But, I did find it!! Thank you much, that was the issue. I did go into "Sysprep Configurations" I picked the configuration that I setup (in the right panel - go into the configuration properties) and then I clicked on the "modify" button and enabled "skip rearm".

    Thank you again!!

Could someone point me to step by step instructions from start to finish for creating and capturing an image of a Win7 Machine using Symantec Ghost?
