Endpoint Protection

The SEP package client is not yet ready for Windows 8 in the last version 12.1.2, this generates many problems including:

• After the client is installed, the PC doesn´t start again
• The client doesn´t install if the Windows8 antivirus is active
• The client doesn´t install unless we make changes in registry or the UAC service
• etc.

Are there any document or instruction to resolve all the problems with Windows 8 or are there any Symantec update or pacht?

This is the only known issue I know of where SEP won't install on Win8. Aside from this, it could be a new issue and you may need to contact support.

SEP 12.1.2 is first version supported for Win8.

Yes, there is a known issue, Symantec Endpoint Protection client fails to install to recently updated Windows 8 computers. Please refer to below technote for more details. Check whether you are having the same issue.

You can work around this problem using one of the following:

• Disable Windows Defender before installing the SEP client
• Remove KB2781197 before installing the SEP client

Current latest version is 12.1 ru2 mp1 and that is supported version for Window 8. It running smoothly on Windows 8 systems. Install this version on your windows 8 systems.

This version is available on file connect. Download/install the client setup and check the result of your issue.

This problem is fixed in the Latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 Release Update 3 (12.1 RU3) which has been released on June 6 2013.

After applying Microsoft update KB2781197 to a Windows 8 computer, the Symantec Endpoint Protection client installer fails

Fix ID: 3123310

Solution: For installations on Windows 8, removed the option to enable/disable Windows Defender after install, as this is no longer supported. Windows Security Center (WSC) will automatically disable Windows Defender when Symantec Endpoint Protection registers with WSC.
