    Hi Reza,

Support for Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 is introduced with the release of SEP 12.1 Release Update 2 (RU2).  SEP 12.1 RU2 is the earliest supported build that is compatable with Windows 8 and Server 2012.

Hello, I can tell from expirence that we install 12.1.2 version and it's working great on Windows 8 clients and windows 2012 servers. The upgrade process went very smooth for us.

    Reza,

I think u need to test and confirm as it might work but some feature or component may not be work so that symantec has not yet officially declared as they are already aware about Windows 8 platform.

There is no OFFICIAL announcement on this, but from my contacts within..

They are planning have a DLP agent to support Windows 8 "Desktop mode" in the 12.5 release (around the end of the year\beginning of 2014).

This is just a plan and NOT a guarantee.

Overall I am a little surprised that companies are even looking at Windows 8.. Not ready for prime time OS!

    Hi

Thanks for headsup, but 2014 is tooooo late!! :(

Actually we're not migrating to windows 8, but every new laptop we get has Windows 8 preinstalled and believe me people rejects it at first encounter but used to love it after few days!

    All..

You need to think about development cycles within a SW company. DLP released a new version in Fall of last year that was a revamp of the agent architecture. When Windows 8 was released (fall), SYMC was deep in building out V12 (soon to be released) of DLP and also some major changs to the agent architecture.

So they have their hands full, especially when it comes to the agent changes.

So to keep in line with DLP versions the next release V12.5/6 is where they will support the Windows 8 agent. Keep in mind that with each Agent release there is a  possible need to also UPGRADE the platform, so there are other mitigating factors than just an agent patch.

In addition a mojority of Enterprise customers, not commercial, are not planning on using windows 8 in large amounts. This is why it may not be a huge priority for SYMC. They have done this with most of their other ENTERPRISE products.

Your best bet is to contact your SYMC rep and let them know how importnat it is and get more people to do the same. They will also be able to get you information on an official statement.

The squeaky wheel will get more attention.

I am just a messenger.. and know how things work with SYMC.

    Please call solved if possible!

Does Symantec have a web page showing the current status of Windows 8 support for DLP or Windows 8 support matrix for all Symantec products in general including DLP?

There is no public site for any development plans.. they are not allowed to do this for legal reasons. If they posted it and then did not deliver it, they could be liable for it.

    Hence..nothing is a guarantee.

I did not mean secret future development plans.

I meant is there a Symantec web site that shows current Windows 8 support by product like the links below so there is a central place to see the current support status for any product such as DLP?
