    hi all,

I am new to Symantec, Altiris and network administration. I have lately installed Altiris Client Management Suite on Windows server 2008 R2 (virtual machine) and named the machine as NS.

I want to create a test environment therefore i have created a domain controller and couple of other machines that are a member of domain named altiris.test.

Altiris console is working fine and is also able to locate other computers on domain altiris.test but i cannot install Altiris Agent or create a managed software delivery task for the computers on domain. If i am right i have to make my NS also join the same domain.

I did that and afterwards the console is not working. It is giving notification server error and when i searched a bit and checked my "Altiris Service" is stopped. When i try to run it it gives following error " Windows cannot start the Altiris Service Service on local computer. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly " [i have also plpayed a bit with login authentication but no success]

When i try to look into the log viewer ... there are ConfigServer and http errors ...

can someone guide me as what is going wrong? is it the DNS or i have to change some IIS settings?

To make things more clear i have LAN connection on NS and no internet access but that was also the case before i made NS join the domain and it worked fine.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    fmadni

    hi again,

After viewing Altiris logs it turned out that SMP wasnt able to connect because it was referring to the machines old name ( in setting up the environment i changed the machine name for ease).

so instead of changing the configurations i changed the machines (NS server) name back to what it was and it is working now.

    best regards
