    Hi,

I have 2 configuration for thin clients, one 8GB model and one 16GB model.
Im noticing the 8GB model is running full because i have only about 1,5 gb left on storage.

I think it is wise to only use 16GB thin clients with Endpoint.

    Any ideas about this?

    HI levd,

What version of SEP are you installing?

I strongly recommend that all thin clients are protected.  There are many threats that specifically target POS equipment.

The forthcoming SEP 12.1 RU6 is expected to have features designed specifically for embedded machines.  Keep an eye out for more infromation!  &: )

    Many thanks,

    Mick

    Hi Mick,

12.1.5 is my latest version, but i really think 8GB thin clients are to small and you should have minimum 16GB.

I've seen it work well on machines with 8 GB or less.  Do keep in mind though that system requirements on embedded OS and full Windows remain the same.

Definitely do not leave those thin clients unprotected.  Insufficient security on POS equipment has resulted in large breaches for many companies in recent years.

    All the best,

    Mick

    Hello,

    Note:

    1. The Symantec Endpoint Protection client will have the standard Symantec Endpoint Protection client footprint in terms of disk space, RAM and CPU usage as on a standard PC or laptop.
    2. The Symantec Endpoint Protection client does not use the embedded APIs that allow operation in conjunction with the write filter feature.
    3. If hard drive space is very low on the embedded machine, Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.x is recommended.

As Mick highlighted above, it would be worthy to await for the Latest version of SEP 12.1 RU6

I believe, you may like to see these Articles:

NOTE: The procedure below was developed using HP t5730 thin clients and may not apply to other models hosting the XP embedded OS.

The procedure below is NOT supported by Symantec Technical Support and is provided only for your convenience.

Incase, if it does not work, you would have to Purchase the Symantec Endpoint for XP Embedded as that's the product specifically created for Thin clients.

    Hope that helps!!

    Thanks for the info.

Is there a way to manage disk usage for SEP clients on SEPM? Just like how you can manage disk space consumption for SEPM itself with defenition management etc.?

How many defenition revisions will SEP store on local disks?

    12.1 client stores 1 revision.

    Brian,

There's not really much you can do when there's insufficient space short of adding a further drive and following the below article:

    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH158452.html

Otherwise, I'd agree with your OP and stick with either larger drives or look at DCS:SA/CSP to lock down the endpoints.
