Windows Logon Account for opening Backup Exec 2012

Created: 02 May 2013 • Updated: 08 May 2013 | 8 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

I want to create user account for backup operator to check job status in Backup Exec 2012. But I do not want to assign local administratror right for user account.

What is the minimum right for this acccount to able to access Backup Exec 2012 console? Which user group? Which local group policy need to grant?

Hi,

You can try the local Backup Operators group and see if this allows it.

Read below too on how to leverage the BE Remote Console. I gave the people checking backups local admin rights, but Backup Operators should also work. It was a normal domain user account that was used as this was across 28 sites so I wanted something generic and not have to manage 28 separate accounts:

I added to local Backup Operators group but still failed.

...the services aren't running. Have you tried with them started up? Otherwise you might be stuck with using a local admin account!

Thanks!

Services are running. I restarted all services but still failed.

...then create a normal domain user accont and add it to the local admins group. Add that as a user into BE and try.

Thanks!

SOLUTION

Created domain user account with local admin right. This account can open BE console.

But domain user account with local backup operator right faild to opne BE console.

Also, is it free to install remote administration console on several workstations/ servers?

...then local admin is the way to go, and yes...the Remote Console is free to install on however many workstations you want, and neither is their a user license attached to how many users can be configured within BE.

Thanks!
