  • 1.  Windows Patches not showing in Site/Package Server

    Posted Apr 04, 2012 11:21 AM

    I'm just now getting ready to start getting 7.1 out to my site servers and the clients will follow. For my first server I've got it setup as a Task and Package server and the Tasks are working fine. Packages are missing though as it's only showing the internal plug in installs and none of the Windows patches I've setup. Here's a couple screen shots:

    It would appear it managed to get some updates from MS10-033, MS10-030, MS11-075 and MS11-043 based on the KB updates shown in the Package Server. The invalid/retrying download packages are BDC Drivers, BIOS Settings/Upgrades and Dell Client Monitoring Policy. Any chance those could be hold up the rest? I have a ton of patches, the old 6.5 clients on the branch servers have over 2000 packages available.

    I tried recreating the package on one (MS12-016) of them just to see if that would force the issue but it still hasn't hit the site server.

    Has anyone come across anything similar? Figured I'd try asking here since I couldn't find anything while searching and before I opened a Support ticket. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

    This may be a stupid question, but does the new package server only download necessary patches? By that, I mean, a client runs an assessment on what patches it has and needs, it then sends that back to the site server/ns server and the appropriate patches are sent to the site server? Just wondering if this is working as intended since I RAAD'd one of the clients and it installed MS11-075 at 1am this morning.

    The invalid BCD and driver packages are normal if you didnt install the "Deployment Site Server Components" on your Task-/Package-Servers, because the target directories do not exist.

    For the patches go to:

    Settings -> All Settings - Settings\Software\Patch Management\Windows Settings\Windows Patch Remediation Settings

    Select the "Policy and Package Settings" tab and see "Package Distribution"-"Assign Package to:"

    "Package Servers automatically with manual prestaging" means packages are only replicated if needed by any client of the package servers site.

    If you want to replicate packages in advance change this to "All Package Servers".

    When you save your changes the system will ask you if you want it to update the existing packages (running the "'Check Software Update Package Integrity" task).
