Windows Problems after installation

Created: 13 Jun 2009 • Updated: 23 May 2010 | 8 comments

I have installed Endpoint on 7 laptops running XP Pro SP2. Then installed it on 1 HP Mini running XP Home SP3 & 1 Dell Inspiron running XP Media Center. The 7 running XP Pro seem to have no problems at all. The HP Mini when I login to windows, it automatically logs off before windows fully boots up. The dell will login in but does not display the taskbar or any desktop icons. The HP will not login under safemode or any user. Whereas the Dell will login under the safemood and display everything just cant run any programs. I need help ASAP. I am a US Marine currently deployd to afghanistan and the laptops is the only thing the marines have to keep them as satisfied as they can be in this crappy place.

in my experience your issue are not so common, we can start to check something:
1) version of Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.......
2) have a look at the event viewer
3) uninstall the less important SEP components (control panel > add/remove programs > change > modify > leave the AV only) and see what happens.

On the Media Center box, make sure you have service pack 1 installed.

I think all those machines have virus before installing sep . If you think so then this might be the cause as symantec might have done something with those.

I have faced this type of issues so offen.

the machine which logs off as soon as logsin try the solution below.

try replacing the userinit.exe in system32.
and llok for registry key
hklm\software\microsoft \ windowsnt \ current version\ winlogn\

here userinit should contain only C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe, nothing else .
