This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello,

We have an existing SAV 10.1infrastucture for servers and workstation which works very well.
We now need to add Symantec Client running windows Server 2008 .

Does Symantec Antivirus Server (a Windows Server 2003 , with Symantec Antivirus Server version 10.1.6.6010) can manage client running Windows Server 2008 ?
The Symantec client we install on Windows 2008 is 10.2.4.4000.

Well yes it can manage but I

Well yes it can manage but I it is always recommended to have SAV server to the latest version so Would suggest you to upgrade your SAV server to 10.1.9.9000.
To install it as a managed client do a pull install.

From 2k8 server go to \\SAVServername\vphome and run the install.

Thank you guys for your quick

Thank you guys for your quick answer :)

I try to install from my "\\SAVServername\VPHome" :

In "VPHome" root, there are no installation executable.

I went to "Cli-inst" folder :

the "Win32Vista" folder is empty
and when I ran the setup from the "Win32" folder I get an error message : "This version of Symantec Antivirus does not support Windows Vista platform." and setup failed.

So from my point of view our infrastructure is not ready to have Windows Server 2008 SAV Client.
I will open a ticket to official symantec support to get an evidence (for my management) but I guess we will install a new version of SAV on the server to managed Win2K8 server, like pete 4u2002 suggestion.

From the SAV 10.2 CD. Install

From the SAV 10.2 CD. Install Unmanaged client locally on the server.
Then copy and paste the GRC.dat file and replace the root cert on the server it will start communicating.
you version is 10.2.4 which is higher than 10.2.2 which is obviously supported.

Follow this article to make it Managed

Just the location change for 7.5 in 2k8 n vista will be :
c:\programdata\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5

Instead of :<OS Drive>:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5

Thank you Vikram Kumar

Thank you Vikram Kumar :)

I made a try with this steps :

  • Install SAV from CD
  • Install it as "Unmanaged"
  • Reboot the server
  • Copy GRC.DAT from parent server to C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition\7.5
  • Copy all .cer file (3 files in my case) from parent server to C:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus\PKI\Roots
  • Then I reboot again the server.

Now I can see the name of my parent server (blacked in the picture) and my Win2k8 server's group
The Virus Definition file date is locked but currently wrong. I guess/hope it will be ok tomorrow.
I keep you inform.

Our Win2k8 server is a 32 Bit

Our Win2k8 server is a 32 Bit system. I've just checked and our definition file has been updated during the afternoom :

We have to check if every setting is ok, but it's a very good start.

About 64 bits system, we will test it in the following days/weeks. I will let you know.

Thank you very much for all information :)
