Windows XP SP3 Network Issues: missing Authentication Tab

  • 1.  Windows XP SP3 Network Issues: missing Authentication Tab

    I've some PCs that perform a strange behaviour.

    SEP 12.1 RU2 Installed with all components.
    Everything works fine till the user change its IP settings. When it tries to return in dhcp settings, it cannot get IP Address, ipconfig shows nothing and the authentication tab is missing in the lan properties.
    If I cleanwipe it and reinstall, everything's works fine... till the next IP change.

    Steps I've already performed:

    • services checked and already started (I mean wired and wireless autoconfig);
    • socks reset;
    • network card deleted and automatically reinstalled;
    • network card deleted and manually installed with latest drivers.

    No way, the issue persists.

    Do you have NTP enabled (firewall and ips?)? Have you tried disabling to see what the result is?

    Have you created this rule?

    Client computers are unable to receive addresses through DHCP after installing Symantec Endpoint Protection

    Nothing changes.

    It seems a problem with the drivers installed during the first installation but, somehow, I cannot "correct" it.

    Tried with it, tried with a permit all rule, tried removing the firewall, tried withdrawing the rule... nothing.

    What is the client OS? Happening on all or just some? Any patterns that you notice on affected clients?

    What if you try a different version of SEP, same result?

    One client has for sure Windows XP SP3.
    The others... I don't know in this moment, I've to check (and I will).

    I've not tried with different SEP versions because I don't have the possibility to strictly operate to the machine.

    Rafeeq, perfect!

    The machine had IE 6 on board.
    After the upgrade to IE 8, everything's working fine smiley
