  • 1.  WinPE 3.0 is slow with Ghost

    Current environment:

    WinPE 2.1 with Ghost32 version 11.5.0.2165.

Once the WinPE boots up, I have a script that maps a network drive and I image off of our NAS.

It is about the same speed as multicasting without the headaches of more than one person, using the same image..

I want to use the new WinPE 3.0.

When I boot up with WinPE 3.0, everything is working great.

I even downloaded the latest nic drivers and added them to the WinPE 3.0.

But when it comes to speed the WinPE 2.1 is still faster, even with an older driver.

    WinPE 2.1                             Average speed       1100 MB/min

    WinPE 3.0                             Average speed       850

I verified that the newer network driver is being used on the WinPE 3.0 GhostPE and also had the same speeds with the default nic drivers..

    Anyone have any ideas..

    Maybe a switch

Is there a Ghost command switch if you only have SATA controllers...

Not really. Ghost cloning speed across the network will be influenced by slowest factor, which is your network. If driver is identical then I'd suggest looking at tweaking TCP switches in Winpe (registry). However this could be tricky - you'll either need to pre-build your Winpe with that registry or run script to modify registry settings on startup before you run ghost.

I would suggest sticking with WinPE 2.1 as WinPE 3.0 is not currently supported.
