How many of you were able to successfully implement adding WINPE 4.x into Deployment Solution 7.1 using the how to article # 85100? I have attempted these steps on a Windows Server 2008 R2 32-bit and 64-bit with no success. It seems to take an extremely long time to load Bootwiz and once it is done WINPE 4 x86 & x64 don’t show as installed. Trying to figure out if it something is completely wrong with my environment and any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

have this HOWTO successful implemented. I know what you mean. The long time load of bootwiz is normal because it just reinitialise and creates the version.ini etc. But that is the point. Just before loading bootwiz the first time (like described in article) you must reboot your system and afterwards open the bootwiz and then you see the winpe4 successful installed.

In your situation you just must start at the point in the article beginning with "copy version.ini" to waik folder etc.

And stop your SBS Services. If not, you are not able to copy the new sbs_x64 folder.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards

I have also been able to get Winpe4 working, but only on our 2008 R2 x64 servers, as stated in the HowTo.  Only real issue I ran into was not being able to Reboot To Production.  The PC would just stay in Winpe and after sending that task, it would no longer receive any other tasks.  Fixed this by deleting the contents of the SBSStore folder.

Other than that I have been able to use our own custom winpe.wim files in the process and add new drivers to winpe without a problem.  Just need to upgrade all our site servers to x64 now.
