Wise Installation Studio

I inherited Wise Installation Studio version 7.3.0.250 and want to get some sense of how old the software is.

Can someone tell me what the current version is and whether it is worth upgrading to it?

I also have a question with regards to how the WIS aligns with version of the Windows Installer.  I do understand that I can set the minimum version in the Summary table.  I also understand, from reading Windows Installer documentation, that the higher the minimum the better.  I am thinking of using a minimum of 4.5 since this version supports all the OS versions that my product supports.

My question is whether WIS is independent of the version the Windows Installer?  Is the version of WIS I have aligned with version 4.5?

Lot's of newbie questions.  I appreciate any feedback.  Please point me to a KB article or resource if my questions are answered there.

Your version is current

Solution

The version you have (WIS7 SP1) is current, but also has not been updated for a couple of years.
Unless you have a COMPELLING reason to use windows installer features that are not found in version 2 or version 3 of windows installer, then I would recommend sticking to the lowest windows installer version your environment can work with, not the highest. That's what Microsoft do in their software and so I tend to follow their strategy on this.
Version 3.x would be my personal choice.

WIS is pretty much independent of the version of windows installer from the perspective of the MSI editor. The support for pre-requisites such as windows installer runtimes and .NET frameworks will not be up to date, but can be updated manually.
