Wise Studio 7 - error on Virtual Package editor

Mothercare's picture

Hi All

Was wondering if someone could help.

I have just installed Wise Installation Studio 7 and am getting an error when i launch Virtual package editor.

Here is the error that i get :

You must have an active internet connection to install the SVS Driver (Altiris Software Virtualization Agent),
The driver is required for SVS functionality in Wise installation Studio. To download this driver and related files.
establish an active internet connection and start Virtual Package Editor. An error message will appear that
will allow you to download the driver.

Can someone please shed some light on this error.

Many thanks
.

It's a bit obvious....

the solutions in the error message. You need to download the SVS driver and install it. Normally during installation (or ised to be , there was a time when the resource was not available) the driver is downloaded and installed automagically. Go to the SVS product page and download it, or have a gogle.

Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil Sorry forgot to

Hi Phil

Sorry forgot to mention on the original post that i cannot seem to be able to download the update. When i click on the error above nothing happens. I have tried to Google
the error but could not find the update anywhere.
But what baffles me is how you can purchase software which needs an update straight away and made worse when the update is not available.

Thanks

Hi Mothercare

it's just one of those ways to ensure that the software that is installed is as up to date as possible (and one of the pet hates of any repackager ;-) )
I'd just download the normal product (SVS) from the Website, and use the serila number you have, it's the best way....

Cheers
Phil

I think you have to install a Hotfix to be able to download runtimes etc, if you are behind a proxy. Check here:

Also check that you have the latest version.

Where have you been the last few years?.
If you purchase and install Vista, MS Office 2007 or even Windows 7 (when it is released for retail sale later this month), as soon as it is up and running, the software will be downloading and installing updates.

It's no different with Wise, except that when the product was release originally, the company was owned by Altiris, but is now owned by Symantec. During that time, SVS has become SWV and no doubt in their infinite wisdom, they have moved the download location to someplace where the Wise Install cannot find it. Hopefully this will get fixed in a future release, but meanwhile you can do as suggested in earlier postings, and grab a copy of Symantec Workspace Virtualisation from wherever they currently have it stashed, and install it yourself. That way you will be sure to be working with the latest release. There is a separate forum for Workspace Virtualisation should you need any specific support on the latest client.

The KB article refernced by JohanH relates to the download of merge modules and runtimes that can be used with WIS. Due to a minor bug, the option to configure proxy information does not appear so a separate FTP download location is available for those who need these downloads.
Frankly, a lot of the merge modules are now way out of date as Microsoft and others seem to have lost interest in keeping them up to date, so if you are planning to use merge modules in any serious way, you should consider making up your own library.
