One of our client is using SEP without license. I have told him so many times to get a license. But he didn,t. He had 10 users license & that was finished march 2011. As he is using SEP 11.x I had no chance to put license file. Can symantec do any thing that he can,t take update from symantec or his software will not work any more ? What can I do against  him ?

    1) Licensing Symantec Endpoint Protection

    3) Activating your Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 product license

    4) Downloading a license file

    5) Licensing an unmanaged client

    Hi Abid,

Till 11.0 Symantec given licence to clients on paper to trust relationship between Clients and Symantec. Now it changed to licence activate through .slf key.

Best way to tell your client that SEP 12.1 has new features and security and update it with new version. Afer updgrading the SEPM wont work after 60 days evaluation period. in that case the client will have to activate licences offline with .slf file or online. this is the best way to run licenced SEP in all clients in envirnment with 12.1

    Hello,

    "Thumbs up" to Ajay's comment.

In this Case, Symantec could not do much, however, since he is carrying an Expired License.

I don't think he would receive any Latest Product updates neither any support on the Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x. till he updates his license.

As far as definitions updates goes, he would receive them without any issues.

Infact, if you check, Symantec provides free definitions (either way) on:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=savce

However, I was just wondering why would you like him to suffer??

    Don't Worry.

    Hello Abid,

I agree with Mithun, the best way would be to either upgrade to 12.1 or just install 12.0 SBE (by un-installing SEP 11 SEPM) as you've mentioned there are 10 clients only. 12.0 Small Business Edition also requires license for activiation.

    Please update the status,

    Happy holidays,

    Cheers!!

The license agreement for the software states that a current support contract is required. I would recommend advising your customer that if he continues to run the software without a support contract, that he is in violation of the license agreement and should he be audited, he runs the risk of substantial fines.
