I would like to use wake on lan in my environment but I'm not sure where to start. We have a version 7.6 NS and a lasrge netowkr with tens of thousands of nodes. Directed broadcasts are off and will stay off becasue of the threat of smurf attacks. I have been searching for any sort of soultion and can't find one.
I did find articles that mentioned proxies for use in an older 6.x environment.
So it seems like in NS 7.1 there was a tickle client task that would look for active computers on the target computer's subnet and send a WOL packet. I am not seeing this task in NS 7.6. Can I import it or is it named something different?
Hi,
By default, there is still a 'tickle client' task type available in NS 7.6. I believe it still works the same way, using a proxy agent.
If you create a new task, look for the 'Tickle Client' task type below the 'Notification Server' folder.
kr
as a requirement you need to enable your agents to behave as a proxy. This can be done in the targeted agent settings for the SMA.
