  • 1.  Workflow User Groups?

    Hey Everyone,

I'm curious to see if anyone would be interested in Workflow User Groups, or at least specifically for me in the DFW area. I attend the Altiris User Group meetings and find them very informative, but I would like an emphasis on Workflow. I think it'd be cool to get together and share some thoughts and ideas on how we're doing things. I'd like some feedback if possible either way just to let me know if I'm crazy or if this is something worth looking into. Thanks!

One of the hardest things about being a Workflow developer is that there isn't a lot of us around. In my company I'm the only developer so it's tough to bounce ideas off someone or learn how to do new things unless you see how it's done first.

I think a user group for workflow developers would be a great idea. Just like Aryanos I'm the only one in our company developing workflows, so there's nobody to discuss with or share thoughts about them.

Yeah definitely bouncing ideas off of each other or just seeing what other people are doing with the product. The possibilities seem endless, so I think this would help w/ interest as well as getting new people on board. I know I was a bit intimidated when I first got started with it, with no hardcore programming experience and all.

I did send an email over to Andy from Symantec to see what he thought, he mentioned something about virtual meetings for users scattered all over. I think it'd definitely be a good start and just see where it could go from there.

I'm in... I'm the "fake" workflow designer and am always looking for ideas and help.  I don't know if you saw my employee change/onboarding/offboarding workfow at our meeting last year but I've completed another large workflow to handle the request portions.

I'd love to get together with others and see what they're doing.  Vitural meetings could be cool too.

We are starting a Virtual Workflow User Group.  Our initial plans are to meet four times a year (once a quarter) for an hour and a half over webex.  Generally the agenda for each meeting will include a presentation on a specific Workflow topic from Symantec, a presentation by a end user on a Workflow they produced, and a Q/A period.  Just as in physical user groups, presenters will earn Connect points (300 I think for a presentation).  We will also be forming an advisory board for the Workflow User Group, to coordinate future meetings, topics and presentations.

We are scheduling our first meeting for March 28th at 2pm EST.  We will post a formal sign up for the meeting on the Workflow Group page.

If you are interested in either being apart of the advisory board or presenting in an upcoming meeting, please send me an email at jason_short@symantec.com
