  • 1.  Workstation fails to shutdown after ghost backup starts

    Posted Jun 06, 2007 02:27 PM
I have several workstations with the same problem. These are Dell GX280s and when I manual or schedule a backup the ghost task starts but the workstation never shuts down goes to a blank blue screen (not the BSOD) and just sits there.  If I hard cycle the power the ghost task starts but the same issue happens when the workstation attempts to shut down again.  When I look at the task log this is what I see.
    To Virtual partition failed
    Client Timed out

I have tried other NIC drivers and the UNI driver but have the same results. Like I said this happens on many of the Dells we have.  Has anyone else come across this happening? Please share!
    thanks
    Dave

    Hi Dave ,

Virtual Partition creation failed and the Backup operation was timed out.At this stage NIC driver is not causing the problem.
Can you, please copy and paste the error log file into your next message?
How many partitions do you have on your system?
Any logged user left on the machine?:smileyhappy::smileyvery-happy:

    Cheers

Im not sure on the user being logged on. Ill have to run a few tests in our lab and try it when logged on and at the logon screen.  When a user is logged on they have 45 seconds to respond or they are logged off and then the ghost service account logs on and runs the incremental backup scan. Post the scan and the system is shutting down is when this tends to occur.
Our workstations have 2 partitions primary and a utility partition.

    Hi Dave ,

If you go to View option in Console and then choose Task Log.Go to your Backup task and choose Event Log option (one on the top).
In Backup event go to failed step and right click-you should be able to get the error file.CAn you please include into your message.

When the Client machine goes into reboot you should be able to get something like this:

    Starting PCDOS....

    Undi driver successfully installed....

    PAcket Driver for......

    ..........................

    My Ethernet address is ..............

If there is a problem with the driver chosen from template for your Client you can spot that because
UNDI driver is not going to be initialized.....

I assume that you are not able to execute any task from Console which requires rebooting into VP (Clone,Image Creation).
If your machine doesn't even try to reboot then you might have a problem with VP.

Which NIC do you have in your machine?

    Cheers
