  • 1.  Workstation Scanning in CCS

    Posted Jan 25, 2011 04:42 PM

Our CCS setup has been focused mainly on our server population but we are now beginning the work necessary to scan our workstations. We are using the same ID as we use for our server scans but believe we have run into a roadblock. If I use a scope file and scope to the Doman and IP address of the machine to be scanned, I get results back. If I browse into the Workstations container and select the workstation to be scanned then it does not work. I get a message indicating that the network path could not be found. My current belief is that because I am unable to do an nslookup on the workstation name, then CCS is unable to determine the ip address of the machine I'm attempting to scan. Does that sound correct?

If so, is this situation unique or has anyone else run into this problem before? Are there any workarounds or is my only solution to get our workstations into DNS?

I think, getting your workstations into DNS is essential for this to work.

Are you a memeber of a domain or just a workgroup. From what I understand of your issue the post above seems right to get the workstation into DNS

Have you tried an advanced scope to a machine in a domain? I'm just currious if that works as well so that you have another way to test it outside of a scope file.  Also what if you run a machines query , do the machines show up there or just the servers?
