This issue has been solved. See solution.

I installed Beta 1 of Windows 7 and I can not get Wise Package Studio 7.01 to start. I was able to installed it without error but it will not start.

I get the following error. (see attachment)

I logged onto the server that is running Wise Package Studio and I performed the asked for steps and even rebooted the server yet WPS will not start.

I have Wise Package Studio 7.01 up and running on Vista Business Edition. Is WPS compatable with Windows 7?

The attachment did not go through.

Please zip the file before; uploading, selecting it and finally attach it.

Is this a 64-bit OS?

My host machine is Vista 64-bit. I then installed VMWare onto this Vista machine and inside my VMWare I have 32-bit versions of Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP & Windows 2000. I also have in VMWare a 32-bit version of Windows 7. And it is on the 32-bit vesion of Windows 7 that Wise Package Studio will not install.

I'm confused. In your first post you said you installed WPS and it would not start, then in your last post you stated that WPS would not install. Can you clarify further?

Have you turned off the UAC ?

Also, why are you not testing with WPS 7.03 ?

Sorry for any confusion. Wise Package Studio 7.01 DOES install but it will NOT start up. each time I try to start it I get the error message I attached in my previous posting.

WPS does work fine on my Vista (64-bit) system however.

I did not know WPS 7.03 was out......does it work with Windows 7?

Thank you.

I can almost guarantee that WPS 7.anything has not been tested with Windows 7, much less certified. It was a long-standing policy in Wise product development to not certify any products against Beta versions of Microsoft software (reasoning: MS changes too much by the time they go RTM). I am certainly not the final word on this, but I'm guessing that's what you'll hear if you submit a defect.

I'd imagine that, in common with the last few Windows OS releases, v7 has a Compatibility Mode for recalcitrant apps. Have you explored that option?

WPS 7.03 has been out for a year or more. Hence it is not considered to support windows 7.

Wise do not support any operating system until after the operating system is released to manufacturing, and since the beta was only released a few days ago, I would consider it highly unlikely that the developers have had time to even install Windows 7, let alone do any testing.

Looking at your "Error message" - this is not actually an error message. It is an information message telling you that the Wise Software Repository has not been configured.

Have you actually carried out the configuration step noted in this information message? Running the Repository Manager is a required step in the configuration of the database and of course WPS will not start up if the database is not configured. I cannot believe you have failed to spot the Repository Manager shortcut in the Wise Package Studio shortcuts installed under Start Menu.

Hi. Yes, I did carry out what the message said. I logged into my Windows 2003 server that is running Wise Package Studio 7.01 and I carried out the exact steps in the Repository Manager. I have done this in the past (like when I installed WPS on my Vista machine). I even re-booted my file server & Windows 7 workstation when I was done yet I still get this dialog message pop up each time I try to run WPS on my Windows 7 32-bit workstation.

It is not the end of the world since Windows 7 is in Beta and we will not roll it out until 2010. I just wanted to get a head start.

Can you run WPS on your server without the repository error?

If so, have you checked the DSN's on your Windows 7 workstation and run the test which confirms whether the ODBC connection can access the SQL server hosted on your W2K3 box?

The error message in question

The error message in question also happens when the share to the Wise Share Point link is down.

In this case, it's Windows 7 denying Wise Package Studio direct access to this share.

I'm having the same issue, and trying to work out why Windows 7 (RC1 in my case) is not allowing the access.

I managed to fix this issue,

I managed to fix this issue, by stating the complete path to the WSP share.

I was using

"servername\Wise Share Point"

now I'm using

"servername.ad.fulldomainpath\Wise Share Point"

now WPS loads, talks to the server, and runs.

Did you turn off UAC on windows 7?

I'm curious as to whether you installed WPS7 SP3 with the UAC slider at the default setting, or whether you reduced UAC to zero?
I certainly recall problems with WPS installs on Vista when it was first released, unless the UAC was turned off.

I did chnage the UAC to Zero

I did chnage the UAC to Zero i.e, "Never Notify" and also i used MSDE2000 for database.
