Hello

I am trying to update the PCAnywhere v12.5 build 486 (sp3) with the security patch hotfix 179526. In my case the hotfix setup runs and it says the hotfix is installed but the build no. is not bumping up ..it remains at 486.

When I run the setup again for thr hot patch it detects the hotfix and ask if I need to repair/uninstall/modify .  Can I assume that the hotfix was installed ?

I am using  Windows XP embedded (ver 5.1 2600) or ver 2002 SP3.

Originally we were using build 265 pre sp1.  I updated to Sp1 then Sp2 and the Sp3. In all cases the build number did bump up.

Thanks

Check the version of the awhlogon.dll not the full program.

Check the  version of the awhlogon.dll not the full program.  It sounds like you describing the over all build number of pcA.   The over all number won't bump up to 500 only the version number for the awhlogon.dll will be changed to 500.

If the awhlogon.dll is now at 12.5.1.500 then you are good.  Under help and about it will still show the overall program at 12.5.1.486.

Check the lower part of the kb for this info also. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH179526

To verify the update, check the file version of C:\Program Files\Symantec\pcAnywhere\awhlogon.dll as follows:

  • On computers with a 64-bit version of Windows, look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\pcAnywhere.
  • Your install path is different if a non-default location was used.
  • Use the following tables to figure out what version the file should be after the update.

pcAnywhere

  GA SP1 SP2 SP3
12.5 12.5.0.265 > 12.5.0.300 12.5.0.442 > 12.5.0.480 12.5.0.463 > 12.5.0.480 12.5.1.486 > 12.5.1.500
12.1 o N/A N/A N/A
12.0 o N/A N/A N/A

Does this Hotfix only apply to the Remote install of pcAnywhere

Hello, we have the Host install of pcAnywhere (12.5, build 442) for our users computers and when we run LiveUpdate no updates are being found.  When I run the "PCAnywhere_12.x_Tech179526" hotfix on these computers I receive the error (as stated in the bulletin) “This install is not valid for your version of pcAnywhere.”  I look at the awhlogon.dll showing 12.5.0.442.

The computers that we use to remote into these users computers have the Remote install and we were able to run LiveUpdate and the updates were installed and the awhlogon.dll are showing 12.5.1.500.  I am assuming the hotfix has been applied since the version on the computers with Remote install are at 12.5.1.500.

Does the hotfix pertain to the computers with the Host install?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can't get Hotfix to install

I did everything as dissiq did above, but when I look at awhlogon.dll it shows as awhlogon.dll.179526

, now"""""""When I try to run the hotfix again I get this message: "Installation ended prematurely because of an error." I've tried uninstalling the hotfix and still get the same error message.

I tried the hotfix on another computer and the same thing happened. I'm stuck and I have awhole bunch of pcs to update.

What else should I try?

Can't get Hotfix to install

This is just an update...Tech179960 hotfix just came out and that works! You do not need to install Tech179526 first, so I am very glad that this is out ...I have already updated several servers.

Thanks for the update.

Thanks for the update.    Make sure, (sounds like you already are) that your machines are up to pcAnywhere 12.5 sp3 first and then install the Tech179960.

Thanks again for the update,

Hi All, I was trying to

Hi All,

I was trying to update Pcanywhere with hotfix 179960, on a Symantec Host only Package.

The update failed to install.

It said " Fatal error occured during installation".

On further analysis, i found that my symantec host only package does not contain awterm32.dll and awrem32.exe files.

The hotfix tries to update the above two files and awhlogon.dll.

Hotfix 179526 works perfectly fine.

Please help me with this issue.

Thanks in advance,!!
