I installed Symantec Antivirus 10 on my XP SP3 laptop. Its a home version I get from Fidelity Investments as a corporate account. I didn't uninstall old version of Mcafee first. Installation was successful. I am logged in as administrator. Quickscan runs on auto fine but anytime I try to start Symantec Antivirus either from the Program menu or directly from the .exe I get the error message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I have since removed Mcafee. I was just on a chat with the Norton folks who sent me here saying that this was a corporate product and they couldn't help me. Samething happens in Safe Mode. I inadvertantly got Security Tool (virus) on my laptop and figure I probably have other viruses as well. I apparently have figured out how to disable Security Tool. Trying to make any positive steps in the issue, I also loaded Spybot which I use on other computers of ours successfully. Installed successful but I can't run it either... same error message, "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the approppriate permissions to access the item." I'm stuck. Please help in anyway possible. thx
