I would like to share my story regarding Symantec Endpoint Protection. I am from HCL Infosystems Ltd, where I am a Customer Engineer managing a team of five people. Specifically, I manage SEP deployments for our customers.
This particular customer had an older AV software installed which wasn't providing thorough protectio - a virus outbreak in the network caused many of the machines to go down for extended periods of time. The customer decided to go with SEP primarily because of its new features. Specifically, they wanted individual management points in each location, and one central location to manage the entire infrastructure. Previously, they were not able to bring all clients under one management console due to various difficulties. The deployment consisted of 49 locations across India, with one server in each location. Additionally, one server was deployed in Bangalore as the primary server. The client installation was approximately at 20,000 machines in a workgroup environment. SEP was able to accomodate all these requirements.
The main server and DB were installed within the first day of deployment. We then started deployment of the other SEPM servers at the Remote Sites. We worked in 24/7 shifts and finished installation in 10 Days.
We started to do a remote deployment using known ipadd and user info. But we were not able to achieve good result in this fashion, so we deployed engineers to each location to do the installation manually. At this point the installation went smoothly. It was fairly intuitive, and we were able to view client-side settings, and the customer was very happy with the reporting and features provided by SEP. They were also very happy with the management console in general.
I really enjoyed this project. We had some difficulties in the middle but i got very good support from the Symantec Technical Team.
I am very happy to share this experience, and hope it will help others in the future when deciding on a vendor.
