Can`t verify after backup.

Hello both,

I am new with the Backup Exec and I made a schedule for daily backup in BE. But every time the backup is completed and get into the verify step, it would fail at last.

I`m using BE 2010R3 and HP autoloader. As my HP autoloader was offline for about 2weeks and no backup task was made during that period, so I`m consider this is the cause of above issue.

Here is the error report.

Difference encountered in file data.

The file \Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Agents\SAP32\Updates\sapr3325204RSP1.msp is different.

Someone can give me some suggestion about this case? Many thanks!

1) Did you enable AOFO?

2) It could be that the tape is bad.  Have you tried backing up that particular directory to disk and see whether the problem is there?  Alternatively, clean the tape drive and try another tape.

Hello PKH,

May I know what`s AOFO stand for?

The tape is good as I tried to use different tapes for testing and the same issue happened.

And I tried to erase a tape also and then did backup task to that tape, still the same.

And I have two different task , one was selected the "verify after backup" option and one was not. The later one without any issue but failed in the first one.

Is this a hardware issue or need to configure in BE?

AOFO = Advanced Open File Option.  You enable this option so that BE can handle opened file.

Did you try to back up to disk and see whether the same problem occurs?

yes, I selected "use advanced open file option" and chose "automatically select open file technology" .

let me try to backup to disk once and get back to you later.

I just did a test to backup to disk. There was no any issue happened. Do you have any idea why this happened?

It looks like there is something wrong with the tape drive.  Run the HP LT&T utility against the tape drive.  Select the write test and make sure that you have stopped all the BE services beforehand.

It`s still me.

Read/Write Test:
Write performance not measured - please use the Device Performance test for accurate performance testing.
Read performance not measured - please use the Device Performance test for accurate performance testing.
Read/Write Test - PASSED.
Above are logs from the write and read test. It shows normal.
Do you have any ideas?

This is a long shot, but you can try this.  

1) Delete the library from BE

2) Stop the media server and the library
3) Start the tape library
4) Start the media server
5) Ensure that the library and tape drive is recognised and functioning correctly in the Windows Device Manager. The library should appear as an Unknown Medium Changer with a Microsoft driver and the tape drive should have a Symantec driver.
6) In BE, install the library if necessary.  Go to Tools --> Wizards ---> Device Configuration Wizard to do so.
