Hi,

Could be that the cleaning tape is old and no longer useful. The easiest way to check is to load a new cleaning tape and then run the utility job.

If a stand-alone drive, it will run it automatically, and if an autoloader/library you need to do so.

You can also download your drive manufacturer's utility and run a diagnostic check against the drive to make sure that there are no hardware issues...just stop the BE services before doing so.

Thanks!

Are you using a stand-alone tpoae drive or a robotic library?

Does the job log have any further details in it?  The most common reasons are for an expired (ie used up) clenaing media or for a robotic library that doesn't have a cleaning media in it.

If you find this is a solution for the thread, please mark it as such.

We are using robotic library.. Larry Fine

And the error message is:

"Clean Drive xxxxx -- The job failed with the following error: Library Error - attempt to clean a drive in a library with expired or bad cleaning media"

...and there's your answer. The tape is old, so you need to replace it!

As CraigV suggested did you try a new cleaning media?  See this link for a how to on configuring it http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH24972

Did you designate the slot which you have placed your cleaning tape in as a cleaning slot?  If not, right-click on that slot, select properties and then change the cleaning slot drop-down box to Yes.

Recently, the cleaning media tape has been changed, is there any other reason possible for failing this job?

Yes...failed/failing hardware. Download your manufacturer's diagnostic utility and run a check against it.

Thanks!

Hi,

You don't mark your own post as the solution unless you find something that solved it...you'd generally mark the post/s that helped you find a solution.

Thanks!

You have a physical hardware issue...like I said, get hold of your manufacturer's diagnostic utility. Stop the BE services, run the utility and check for hardware issues. If there are, log a call with the hardware vendor.

Thanks!
