Installing Exchange Remote Agent on New Server

Created: 02 Fév. 2005 • Updated: 21 Mai 2010 | 8 comments

Hello--

We just went through a migration and need to install the BEWS remote agent for Exchange Servers on our new Exchange Server. Just prior to the migration, we installed the agent to our (former) Exchange server.

We have decommissioned our former Exchange server and when we try to do a remote install and push the Exchange agent onto the new Exchange server, it is not listed in the list of remote agents. It only lists remote agents, not remote agents for Exchange servers.

I removed the license from BEWS and then added it again, and it still doesn't show.

Please help. We need to backup our Exchange data during this critical time of post migration.

Thank you,

Stephen

The Exchange agent doesn't work the same as the remote agent. While the remote agent gets installed onto the remote server, the Exchange agent is just literally a license key, which enables the Exchange functionality, but is not actually installed on anything.

Make sure the remote agent is installed on the remote server, as you will need that to do the backup, and check that your Outlook client can successfully connect to the new mail server. If both of these are in place you should be able to connect to the Exchange server through Backup Exec, and perform the backup.

Hi,

In addition to the above reply, once you purchase install the exchange license on the media server, it comes with a free remote agent license which can be installed on the remote server.

Please refer to the following technote:

- How to perform a local installation of the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers or the Advanced Open File Option

We hope this will help.

Hello--

For some reason I was not geting the emails that replies had been posted to my post--sorry.

I will check the tech notes suggested and see what is going on. At this point, I am using ntbackup of our Exchange data and then using BEWS to backup those files. I started getting circular logging errors, so I need to troubleshoot that issue too.

I will try the link and see if that helps and report on the outcome.

Thanks for all the replies.

Stephen
