As of now, The Symantec AntiVirus for Linux client supports the following operating systems:

  • RedHat Enterprise Linux 6.x
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and Enterprise Desktop 11.x (includes support for OES 2)
  • Ubuntu 11.x
  • Fedora 14.x, 15.x
  • Debian 6.x

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS has been released and the Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 12.1 is not supporting it.

Could we see the Support for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS in the Upcoming Versions of SEP 12.1?

Elisha is right ... but it is not easy to install SAVFL for Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS Desktop...

If it can help there is an easy way to do that for a 32-bit version or for a 64-bit version :

Install Gnome 3 User Interface :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnome-shell
sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool

Reboot the system ...

for a 64-bit version of Ubuntu 12.04.2 :

sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

Reboot the system ...

Install the 4 main packages of SAVFL (sav, savap, savjlu, savui)

Configure a GRC.DAT file and copy it to /var/symantec/

Reboot the system ...

Compile ap-kernelmodule (Run the file /SAVLINUX/ap-kernelmodule-1.0.14-13/ with right parameters)

Copy the 2 new files from /SAVLINUX/ap-kernelmodule-1.0.14-13/bin.ira/ to /opt/Symantec/autoprotect/

Reboot the system ...

That's done!

(SAVFL Autoprotect icon appears in Gnome 3 task bar)
