Problem

Backups of System Reserved partition intermittently hang at 5% when using Symantec System Recovery (SSR).

When this issue occurs, VProSvc.exe takes up around 50% CPU.

The issue is seen when backing up to a network location (i.e. network share) but has also been seen when backup destination is set to a local device (i.e. USB drive).

Environment

Windows 2008 R2

Windows 7

Solution

No workaround is currently available.

When the issue occurs, end the process for VProSvc.exe in Task Manager which will cancel the active backup and return the CPU level back to an acceptable level.

I found a workaround wich is stable!

Solution that I use is a script to disable ms vss and exchange services during snapshot of the machine..

rem is one I do not use!! But you can if needed...

There is a stop and a start batch file. Both can be started in de backupjob in "command files"

DON NOT FORGET TO USE TIME OUT otherwise job will fail with time out on script!!

If ypou have problems with scipt at the end (if it does not end correctly) add a pause!!

Hi you all,

I have a simalar error:

problem for case is:

There is a Microsoft SBS2011 running SSR 2011 (10.0.3.45857) as a hyper-v client on hyper v server core 2008 r2

Every 3 - 4 days (scheduled incremental once a day and full twice a month) backup hangs on 5% > server has to be restarted > but it hangs on shutdown!! > so I power of and power it on again (manager hyper v) > restart job results in reconciling volume’s > after this mostly incremental succeeds!

It seems to hang on the service (seen in taskmanager): VProSvc.exe *32

There is a script stopping all services and starting it after shadow copy

When error command: vssadmin list writers results in:

vssadmin 1.1 - Volume Shadow Copy Service administrative command-line tool

(C) Copyright 2001-2005 Microsoft Corp.

Waiting for responses.

These may be delayed if a shadow copy is being prepared.

Normally there are no errors here!

You will need to open a case with support and then ask for it to be escalated to backline level.
