If you live in the St. Louis area and use any Altiris products, we invite you to join our User Group!  To become an official member, click the "Request Membership" button (you must log into Connect first).  Additionally, please be sure to specify which Altiris/Symantec products you are using, as there has been a substantial increase in "spam" accounts and we need to verify you are truly an Altiris user (or interested in learning more about Altiris and Endpoint Management).

Save the date (really this time!) for the St. Louis Endpoint Management (Altiris) User Group Meeting!  Apologies for the multiple reschedules, but this time we are really set to go, and on Leap Day no less!  This is truly an opportunity that comes once in a lifetime (ok, well maybe every 4 years). During our efforts towards moving to Windows 7, one obstacle which came up frequently was dealing with ActiveX controls installed in the browser.  We are in transition from nearly all users being Administrators of their XP boxes, to (nearly) all users being limited on their Win7 boxes.  Microsoft provides some ways to manage ActiveX (including using approved controls, managed codebase

Note that the following applies to and was tested on Altiris NS 6.0 SP3 R13, but may work with some adjustments on SMP 7.x as well (untested).

In Barcode 6.x, our warehouse manager used a desktop computer connected to a wedge scanner to perform "Quick Scan"s and rapidly bring up assets for status changes. That functionality is gone in 7.1 --now a handheld device performs the scan and the user must upload the information in batches, a much slower process.
