Veritas SF product till 4.1 was by default taking & keeping 5 backup copies of diskgroups under /etc/vx/cbr/bk directory. Starting 5.0, this was reduced to only one copy. In most of the cases, diskgroup configuration gets modified the same day & issue occurs on the same day. As a result we are not left with any last known good config copy. It would be great if this is changed default to 5 copies as was in previous versions. I agree that since 5.0 can support very large configurations, it is quite possible that config copies would be bigger in size consuming the disk space under /etc/ filesystem.  A workaround can be provided to this by a) either giving an option to user to move the files to some other directory. b) create some reserved space with in diskgroup where these backups can be hold & some privilaged command which can access those backups. In all versions of  Storage Foundation suite, Symantec provides a feature of IOFencing to prevent Cluster Split Brain situation & prevent data corruption. As per design, IOFencing is a passive module i.e it doesn't react live unless there is any GAB port membership change. In case cluster keeps running fine, there is no check which is done by IOFencing module. It would be great if IOFencing module is made intelligent so that it performs frequent checks whether the coordinator disks have appropriate registration keys & the data disks have appropriate registration & reservation keys. There are many occurances faced in real life scenario when disks have stale keys it is realized much later once issue occurs. Very common issue we face on our environment is diskgroup not getting imported with an error "diskgroup has no valid configuration copies", the result we find is disks are left with stale keys because of which vxvm is not able to access the private region...

The Volume Status table in the SFW 5.1 admin guide lists lots of status values as well. However, after finding the Degraded status showing up as "-" in the vxprint output, I wondered how the rest of the possible Status values will look like in real-life. I'm unable to simulate many anomaly scenarios with our limited test systems. I was looking at Admin guides for Solaris/Aix, they both contain detailed lists of Volume, Plex, States (& descriptions) that are displayed in vxprint outputs associated descriptions. Is there similar info for Windows Volume & Plex?

Here is a reward that Symantec could offer for basicly no cost, that I for one would really appreciate: Symantec licenses for my own computers at home. Everyone contributing to Symantec Connect is a professional supporting Symantec products.  Pretty safe bet we all have computers at home - probably most of us have multilple ones.  I bet I'm not the only one running VMWare, VirtualBox, or another virtualization tool to build out virtual machines for different uses.  Any time I build a computer or VM at home, I have to decide what to do about AV. I would think that Symantec would love to give me Endpoint Protection rather than have me go out and download the free Avira or Microsoft Security Essentials.  A lot of my personal VM's are Linux.  We aren't using Symantec on our Linux boxes at work, so I would think Symantec would be thrilled to have me doing it at home, so when the time comes here at work, I already know how to do it. Since the cost to Symantec would...

I really enjoy the VMWare agent for Backup Exec for Windows.  There is one thing I would like for it to do that it can't.  When you create a backup job for a virtual server it would be nice if you could pick a different vmware esx server host as the destination.  That way the virtual machine can be backed up directly to a machine where the vm can be turned on right away. Thanks, Andy

Hello, in the SBG Control Center you can define several reports for each module like SPAM, Messages, Connection and Viruses. Curently if you would like one "beautiful" management report you have to search for information and create your own report. Furthermore if you have that reports scheduled to send you the information it is complex to handle these mails. So my question is, whether it is possible to have a report template where you can define necessary information of all modules to be placed in one report. This would help a lot to decrease the efforts of report status of brighmail gateway. bye, toby

I came across several times the request to display the scan progress graphically or at least in digits (percentual or absolute)

SEPM should use a red dot overlay to indicate SEP clients on which security problems have been detected. Symantec System Center has done this since the beginning, I think. I was really surprised there was no corresponding functionality in SEPM. And, of course, it should be possible to determine what the threat is from the context menu for the client.

This is a big pet-peeve I have with NetBackup. It is currently extremely difficult to visualize the schedule environment. A few other idea postings here list some interesting problems, but few list a good way to solve it. I have an idea that could help. Under the “Summary of All Policies” create a new “Schedule Visualization” section. Place in a calendar view that can be selected by day , week, month, or year. Also set a pop down java calendar to select whatever day you want. This is Java 101 class stuff, so it should be easy for your programmers to implement. Then down the left had side, have all the policies with +/- sign that expands to the schedules within each policy.  The top is the time line (time of day, days, weeks, etc.). Bars for each schedule will allow you to easily see what schedules overlap others. Color code the bars for different schedule types. This should be an easy way to visualize the information. Please accept this as a request for a new feature. We would like to be able to change the background colour of the SEPM Web Console, which will help us to remember which console we are logged on to.  We have multiple environments for multiple locations and right now all consoles look the same and it can be difficult to tell which SEPM Web console we're logged on to. Even a facility for putting the name of the server at the top of the web console "Home" page would suffice - it doesn't have to be a dfferent colour. Thank you for your consideration. Dan

Hello to All Admins, I think that if Symantec Support Dept. provide a Section Called Symantec Online Support ( SOS ) & give Support with CHAT to Customers who have Problem, it Will be good Idea to Help Admins for Solving Their Problems & Also give a Real Feedback to the Symantec Support Team about Status of Symantec Products in Whole World. Right now, HP did same Support on their Support Section & they found lot's of missings & real Problems of HP Users, Also they will give Sugestion to their Customer for Better Choosing what they need & so, it will Reduce rate of their Problem in Feature. if Symantec Start this Online Support, it will be the First Company in Antiviruses Category who did it will help to it's Customer for giving Better Services from Symantec Real Technical Team in Online Chat ... WOW !!! Best Regards, J. Nourbakhsh

There needs to be a way to purge old corrupted definitions from the SEP client or a way to delete these folders When multiple definition sets get corrupted, often times the old corrupted folders remain on the client for quite some time.  These folders are specifically named on the client with the date/revision.   Suggestion: When 3 or more definition folders appear in the C:\program files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Virusdefs folder, check compare the numbered folders against the usage.dat and if the folder dates are at least 1 week older than the lastdefs entry, delete those folders.

Recently in the Netbackup forum, someone had created a thread, and once everyone had given their ideas and tried to answer the question the creator posed, the creator went through and deleted all of their posts regarding his/her question.  Now the thread is completely useless, as no one can tell what the question was. I feel like the Netbackup forum is a great place to learn new information about Netbackup.  When someone goes back and removes their original question, this prevents someone from building on experience of the original poster.  I made a suggestion in the thread that there should be a limit on how long someone can go back and edit their posts - say 30 minutes.  Once this 30 minute period has elapsed, the comment becomes "locked" and should only be modified by the moderator/administrator upon request from the person that made the post.  Someone saw that...

I'd like to see a "survey" type of forum discussion. Where the main purpose is to click on one of some default provided answers. With some graphics showing how much the answers were clicked. Cheers

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 The only setting we have is to reset the homepage when some sort of  malware changes it,  but would be great if we it reset  to homepage even if it is not a malware attack. So we dont need a GPO to do that agian. This will help us to do it with Symantec agent to reset the homepage. Can we request SEP product manager to address it

I like the "ideas" section, however, it seem to not gain too much attention. You should maybe feature some random ideas on the right sidebar for the user to click on. (In context of the forum/product the user is in) Cheers Michel

I would like to suggest the following 1) After I click on the Order Now for a reward redemption, give me a confirmation dialog, in case I click the link accidentally. 2) Between the time I requested for the reward and the time it is approved, allow me a mean to cancel the redemption.

I would like to see an update made to Symantec Command Central to support AIX VIO Servers, without this support you are unable to get a clear picture of all the storage assigned to those servers.

Earlier in STN we knew who all are online/Logged in right now.Even in Connect there should be option where we can see who all are logged in right now. People tend to wait for reply from someone whereas  the other person might have logged out due diffrent timezone (must have gone to sleep ).. If not a glowing bulb next to the name then atleast the way we used to have long back in STN in the Overview page.

I don't see any navigation buttons or similar ( for example : Pag 1 2 3 ... last ) to navigate through blogs, articles, ideas, etc. There is a filter in " My Workspace" that help to order the different posts but it's hard to go to other pages than the first.  You will see only the first Articles or Blog page.... Please add it so we will use better this section. Regards, Paolo

Right now, on Connect, you can page through the pages, but you cannot skip or easily navigate to another page.  For example, you start with the posts 1 - 20 on the page and 21 - 40 on the next page and so on.  When you are on the page with posts 81 - 100, you cannot go to the page with posts 1 - 20 easily.    You got to page back page by page.  It would be good to list the pages at the bottom of the page so that the user can go easily to a particular page.  Perhaps the pages can be listed as follows 1 - 20 | 21 - 40 | 41 - 60 | 61 - 80 | ......

Currently the dashboard show inbound, outbound, and both.  It would be great to further subdivide that by scanner so one can determine that a) all the scanners are working and b) load balancing is working properly.

Under the Reputation Good/Bad Sender section, it would be useful to be able to attach a note to each entry (ie who made the request/why the exception was added).  Additionally, it would be beneficial to be able to add an optional expiration date for an entry.  Many times we add items are added to the white list on a temporary basis.  Currently, we make a notation on an external calendar on when to remove the entry.  Would be a huge time saver if the expiration date was integrated.
