Add option to Vault only full tapes.
Created: 05 Oct 2009 | 3 comments
Sometimes we need to eject only full tapes from a tape library and leave tapes, which still have available space, in a library till they will get full. But currently vault does not have an option to select full tapes. It would be nice to have an option to select only full tapes together with a date range selection. I think those option can be mutually exclusive (radio buttons).

I suggested this same thing September 24th, but in a broader sense, selecting media status.
Either way, I have a set of tapes I only want to vault when full - currently I manually eject the partials and then let my vault eject the rest, then reload the active tapes - not a good solution!

Not Too Sure
Suppose that your backup spanned two full tapes and then partially a third tape. Does that mean that the set would be broken with two tapes going offsite and the last piece still in the vault? That would mean the offsite tapes couldn't be used for a restore if the partial tape is still in the library.
Also, how would this affect vault users who use duplication as part of the vault operation? I would care if the "source" tapes were full or not because the output copy would be full (except for maybe that last tape). And we use multiplexing on our backups and would rather not have the output vault tapes multiplexed, but it looks like we have to to get the duplication part of the job down to a reasonable level.
