In SAV, people had the ability to set up web-based installs of the client software.  This was difficult, but worked if configured correctly.

What about setting up a small web page (http://ip_of_sepm_machine/install) that directs to pre-compiled single executables?  This way end users could, in the event of a failed deployment, simply pull up a web page that contains links to the current package (set up ahead of time by the administrator), download the file, run the file and at least be protected.  Granted there are other issues that could cause issues (such as permissions issues), but it'd be an easy way to distribute the packages.

I'd suggest that these clients drop into the Default Group (thus eliminating the need for extra configuration, or needing folders/packages for each group), so that they'll at least show up in the SEPM.  Administrators could then move them into their proper groups.
