Groups are used as a source for node items
We have used Groups as a source for node items just like OU's are since the 5.x days, and that when a reosurce is imported you can confiured the import rule to create collections/filters of the source items.

No, we understand the
No, we understand the functionality that currently exists with the import of groups and the creation of filters. We would like to be able to import a domain group and have it exist so that you could target MSD's or other policies at the group level. Evaluation of the policies would then occur at logon. This would be similar to functionality of Software Portal. Microsoft had this functionality in SMS 2.0...
Also, not sure what triggers an update to these posts, but this was put out there on Connect since Nov of 2010.
Any filter can be targeted by policies and tasks
