Whenever a Notification Server is used to manage internet connected computers, those computers will always download Software Delivery Packages from the Notfication Server itself.

Currently there is no option to "do not allow package downloads from the NS" and it is not possible to dedicate a named PS to serve all computers from "unkown" subnets.

To reduce the load on the NS it would be good if Package Servers could be setup in a Site which is used, if a computer connects from an unknown subnet. This would allow to ensure that this Package Server gets all the load from internet connected computers and not the NS.

The feature request is: Allow the setup of a Site wich automatically contains all "unknown subnets".

Alternatively, you could create a filter for computers with subnets not defined to a site in Altiris from Tables in the CMDB database.

SMA clients updates the vsubnet table with subnet, and Subnet Mask information and the vSiteSubnetMap table contains Subnets mapped to Sites defined in Sites.

The vComputer table contains the computer active IP address, and the Inv_AEX_AC_TCPIP tables contains the SMA comptuer IP address information from the last basic inventory.

-- filter computers not mapped to a Site

select guid from vcomptuer vc
-- join tcpip table populated by basic inventory
join inv_aex_tcpip ip on ip._resourceguid = vc.guid and ip.[ip address] = vc.[ip address]
-- join sub-query the includes subnets not mapped to sites
(select subnet, [subnet mask] from vsubnet
where Guid not in (Select subnetguid from vsiteSubnetMap)
) sub on sub.Subnet = ip.subnet and sub.[Subnet Mask] = ip.[Subnet Mask]

Updated query... sorry syntax error.

-- filter computers not mapped to a Site

select vc.guid from vcomputer vc

-- join tcpip table populated by basic inventory

join inv_aex_ac_tcpip ip on ip._resourceguid = vc.guid and ip.[ip address] = vc.[IP Address]

-- join sub-query the includes subnets not mapped to sites

join

(select subnet, [subnet mask] from vsubnet

where Guid not in (Select subnetguid from vsiteSubnetMap)

) sub on sub.Subnet = ip.subnet and sub.[Subnet Mask] = ip.[Subnet Mask]
