Unlike other AV products, SEP do not schedule a scan when it is installed as an unmanaged client.  There is an Active Scan During Startup defined, but it is not enabled.  For those who are unaware, that machine will not be scanned unless the user initiate a scan.  SEP should either enable the defined Active Scan or give the user a choice to enable the scan during the installation process.

I think it can

If you actually make a package from a client group that has a policy of the scheduled scan it will.

Just be sure when you export the package to choose the option for unmanaged.

Your method is a rather

Your method is a rather convoluted way of achieving what I suggested.  My concern is for those who are unfamiliar with the product.  Before I put in SEPM, I installed quite a few SEP clients from the CD and did not realised that these machines were not scanned.  I only found out when I put in SEPM and made them managed clients.

Me too

I installed from the CD also, and found many of the options locked down. I only replied to you so that you knew there was a way to do it. Your way is that they are now managed and are following policy of the SEPM. My way allows you to create a package that is unmanaged but allows for the options you want.

Anyway, I was just hoping to give you some idea in how to get to the end result of the main question. Sorry if I confused anyone.
