backup virtual machines on mount points

From a current customer situation, I know that virtual machines (Hyper-V), residing on mount points can not be backed up by Backup Exec.
This had not been mentioned in any whitepaper, or other document, which let the customer do a complete wrong plan for his environment.
For the future it would be nice if it is possible to back up virtual machines residing on mount points.
