Brightmail needs to have an auto-recovery option.  Fairly regularly, though admittely not every week, have to purge logs and reoptimize the Brightmail database because it gets hung up and won't accept mail any more.  The solution, currently, is to go to Administration, Alerts, click in a white space in the right hand frame and press SHIFT-A to bring up Advanced Attributes and the scroll to the bottom, click Optimize Now (we already have it set to optimize every hour) then click save.  Then you have to go to Adminstration, Reports and "Delete Data Now".  Once you do this you reboot the virual appliance and it starts accepting mail again.  Just doing one or two of these 3 things (optimize, delete, reboot) doesn't work, but doing all 3 always does.

Of course, it would be better if Symantec would code it to avoid the corruption, but short of that an automated recovery script would be the next best thing.
