I have found the console in NS 6, 6.5, and 7 to be very confusing and unorganized. Some real thought should go into the next upgrade as to how the console should be designed. Why not have all setting, policies, or jobs for a certain module all under that particular component. If I wanted to configure something in Patch management, I could go to Patch management and configure the settings, jobs, task and/or policies right there. Now I have to go from Settings to Manage and then maybe reports or something to that effect.

I couldn't agree more and

I couldn't agree more and can't understand why this hasn't happened yet. It was very close in 6.5 and now not so much.

Reports Scrolling

I really do not like the function of viewing reports. In 6.5 you could actually scroll down. In smc 7 it refreshes the entire screen to go down just one row.

Still true as of August 2011,

Still true as of August 2011, why all the patching settings are spread throughout the console just baffles me?  When setting up policies for patch I then have to jump to another view completey out of the way to look at "software update plug-in policy"?  This easier in 6?  Not sure of logic?

Hi Rick D,

May you provide an example of your policies setup workflow? In my experience most of Patch settings are accessible within "Settings" section of Patch Management Worker View (Home > Patch Management).

Sure.  First example is using

Sure.  First example is using Patch with 6.  You will notice that the 4 main components to patch are all on the same location.

Moving to 7, I now have to jumped to several different screen, some with several more clicks than before to use the same above configuration items.

The below location you mentionted has no collections (filters), or the ability to update (other than default) the "software update plug-in, no ability to view tasks?

This is a few more clicks away than in 6, not the same screen.

And this is buried all the way under "All Settings|Agent Plug-in|All Agent/Plug-in|Software|Patch Management|Windows which is 6-7 clicks away.  This one I use alot so is the most frustrating.

Doesn't really compare to 6 unless I'm missing some easier way, which I'd love to hear.
