When the installer detects a systems change is present.

Then have an option to Reboot the system (recommended) or continue with the installation.
The current solution is to tell the user to registry edit to find the offending item that could be left by any application.

There is a good reason the installation is halted.
If those system changes were due to another AV product being uninstalled (or a Windows Service pack) allowing the user to 'continue the install anyway' would break things badly.
I agree. If the reason for
I agree. If the reason for the pending change is another piece of software needing to cleanup.
What I am referring to, is when there is an application installed, that is using that area for other purposes. No matter how many times you reboot the machine, the offending registry entry will never be removed.

To date I have only seen that issue on Vista or 2k8 servers.
I haven't done any research (Google search) to find out how widespread it is but I assume that we aren't the only software vendor to run into this issue.

I have this issue on 2 SQL Servers; one is a 2003 server and the other is a Win2000 server, and I've tried the workaround to no avail. Is there any other approach?
I can reboot these machines forever and delete the registry key but it simply won't load SEP client. I've completed 150 other servers successfully but these 2 are killing me.
This is a serious limitation
This is a serious limitation of the SEP installer... because of this problem we have had to write a custom SEP install script to check the registry key, if present reboot the system, then install SEP.
Why can't SEP do this automatically?

Resolved in RU6 due out in Aprilish
There is a key that can be deleted. We discovered that the key we depend on was not cleared correctly by other applications. We removed the dependency on that key in RU6.
