Normally, the Size of SEP Clients (Just Antivirus & Anti Spyware modules), that install on the Clients machine, is around ~ 400MB. I think that, this will take Space on Client's, more than Normal Size. Sometimes, when you add more Modules on Clients ( Firewall / Network modules ), it will take around ~ 450-550 MB on Client's machine. I think that, Symantec should review the Size of Clients Packages to Decrease it's Size & Spaces on the Client machines .

Remove the Install Cache

Hi,
Just to let you know you can remove the client install cache to reduce the overall size of the client. However, with out the cache the client is unable to use a delta to upgrade to the next MR, RU, or MP (note, this does not effect Antivirus, or other LU content deltas).

Removing the cache will reduce the client footprint by about 110MBs. The cache is located under:
Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Cached Installs\
On Windows 2008/7 systems it's located under the ProgramData\ folder.

Do remember that once you

Do remember that once you remove the cache install to reduce the disk space, when upgrading the client, it will requires to download the entire client package from SEPM, as compared to the delta.

No cache = No Delta

That is correct.
If you remove the "Client Package Cache", the client is required to download the complete upgrade package in order to upgrade. We call this downloading the "FULL" package.
If you leave the client package cache on the disk, then the client can upgrading to new MR/RUs or MPs using the Delta system, which makes the download much smaller. The RU5 SEPM server had an enhancement that reduced the file size of the delta quite a bit. In one test, creating a delta from MR4 to RU5 the delta file was somewhere over 12MBs. Using an MR4 SEPM server to create the same delta create 67MBs delta file.

And of course, without a delta, using the "FULL" package, the package will be somewhere around 100MBs.

So if you have the disk space, it's worth keeping the Client Packages. But if you have small devices that you re-image regularly, then removing the "Client Package Cache" is an option.

Note again, this only effects the Client AutoUpgrade Feature, where you upgrade the version of your client from one RU to another RU or MP patch. This does not effect AntiVirus Definition or other content updates.
