Default check box for policies in NetBackup
I think it would be nice to have a checkbox in NetBackup for policies to mark the current configuration as default. The default settings could be displayed in a different color with maybe a date somewhere on a tab to show when the default was made/modified. This would be helpful for when a policy abends and you have to make a change to get it to run correctly, but then need to change it back.
This came about one weekend when there was an issue with some servers. We had to make changes on a bunch of policies, then on Monday when the issue was resolved we had to go to the policies and change them all back.
The default could work in a way that once the policy is run with the changed settings, it automatically changes back to default settings. There could also be an override button in case the policy needs to run in a new config for a few days. You could also have on button in the toolbar for a master restore to default for all policies.
Just an idea, but I think a useful one.

I think you'd be better off
I think you'd be better off asking for a way of exporting & importing backup policies. That way you could quickly set up a loop to export all the policies that need the modifications, make the changes, and then the following day (or whenever) you could then reimport the backup policies and overwrite the temp. changes.
That way there'd be no potential for "did I remember to check the 'default' box on that policy" or "shoot, the default box was accidentally checked when it shouldn't have been and now our 400-line redesign of the backup file selections has been reset to the old 3-line version that didn't complete in time".
I don't think I want NetBackup automatically modifying my policies for me, regardless of whether someone told it to or not. =) Heck, if nothing else how would Auditors (both human and software) treat something like that ?
