Dear All,

I am supporting a customer who has got lots of operators having access to netbackup console.

Due to this , we have lots of instances when the operator hits the cancel all jobs button and production is impacted.

The customer has requested me to explore the following

1) How to trace who has cancelled all jobs ?? ie username/ ip address of person who is responsible ??

2) Can Symantec introduce cancel all jobs EEB for netbackup 6.x ??

If you guys have any ideas about this issue pls let me know.

Thanks & Regards
Mahesh

We are aware of the need to add additional audit logs into NetBackup to indicate who did what and when. We are currently working on this.

You requested an EEB, are you hoping this EEB would disable the "Cancel" button?

Hi Tim,

Yes, i am hoping the EEB will disable the cancel all jobs button on the task bar of the acitvity monitor and cancel all jobs button on the right click of the monitor.

By giving this functionality to the customer i am support  we (Symantec) will be relieved of a major pain point in our services to this customer.

This cancel all jobs issue has disrupted production backups several times and led to several production system release delays at this customer site and this customer is a major financial institution.

Thanks & Regards

Hi there,

I'm also having this problem, many users are able to cancel jobs and this is a little bit unconfortable for us. Is there a way to disable this button from the activity monitor? I'm also creating users and roles but this will not be enough if this option remain on the activity monitor.

Thanks!

if NBAC is installed just create a profile for operator (or other profile) disabling the cancel operation. That was the only way we found to elimnate this problem on our installation. The cancel button will still be there but will have no operation on the "no cancel" profile.

Sorry, I forget it, NBAC also provides audit trace on who make the operation (OPS Center feature), if it is enabled.

I agree that it could be useful to have logging to find out who issued a cancel command.

However, I disagree about disabling the cancel/cancel all jobs context menu item. If I need to shutdown netbackup, the cancel command gives me the ability to end the jobs cleanly without hunting for command line options.
