Something I have see for a long time is that netbackup is not very good on updating tape drive data, has Serial Number, Drive Name and Path, this are the 3 main things to check and confirm that are matching after a drive replace, failure or NBU change, I know there is tpautoconf -replace_drive but we need to write scripts or check drive by drive when a SAN fabric goes down.

A good tool or new command will be something who checks this 3 settings on tpautoconf, tpconfig and vmglob and tells you in that order where the mismatch is, with a simple report, if this gets done, it will be an easy thing even for symantec to provide support and their users can perform less calls for something that can be fixed with a tpconfig -update.

The main thing is a command that check the all environment in one run for one or all the media server and just provide a report, just think on getting a daily email with all this missmatch's? how many 52's and 84's can be prevent?

Is just an idea, will be good to know someone else thoughts.

Regards.
