In Netbackup Calendar based scheduling, I have the ability to schedule my weekly backups to occur on Friday's, however I need to exclude the "last Friday of the month" from my weekly backups because that Friday is my Monthly backup schedule. Currently I have no ability to exclude the last Friday of the month based on a reoccuring rule, like I have in my include date options. My only option is to go into every schedule and manually exclude whatever day the last Friday of the month falls on from EVERY month going out for several years.

Have you read, that if there are several schedules starting at a given time, NetBackup will run the jobs only for the one with the longest retention period ? So if you have a weekly schedule at friday and a monthly schedule that has to run the same day it will skip the weekly and run the monthly. Well, in this example I am assuming you will want to keep the monthly backups little bit longer than the weekly ones. Keep in mind that if you have the same retention period, NetBackup will run the first schedule alphabetically. If you have DailyIncremental with retention 2 weeks and WeeklyFull with the same 2 week as a retention period.... you will end up with no Full backups at all in just two weeks. This means with no restore capable backups at all :) So... be careful :) and good luck.

I was actually logging on to create this idea. For example, We may want to run a special vaulting process on the first week, but want to make sure that the regular full doesn't run that week. We shouldnt have to select calendar dates on the exclude for the next year which could be done automatically using the same "scheduling" method on calendar basis.

-Austin Lazanowski Backups cost way too much until you needed them.

It's a very good idea. Sometimes when customer has comlicated backup policy, different retention periods etc. we have to create excludes for last saturday of the month, last day of the month etc.

I too wish there were exclude dates based on day of the month or day of the week, eg 3rd Saturday in the month, so I could mesh full and monthly backups without explicit exclude dates.

Relying on different retention periods as Mr. Predarov suggests is crazy and highly prone to breakage.  This exclude date selection needs to be explicit.
