Finding a way to reward for what's a definite fix for a problem!

Partially Implemented
I've seen a number of posts in a lot of the forums, where guys have the correct solution in place. However, these guys aren't rewarded for this, so the forum post stays open.
I'd like to see some way in which we either vote on the answer, or if a moderator can close off, and reward points to the guy who has had the right idea/solution.
Anybody feel the same...?

I totaly agree with you. I've found a anwser of a problem I got on the post https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/microsoft-visual-c-runtime-error-sav-client-fails-start but the post is still without a solution.
Marking Solutions
Marking solutions is important to the entire community. As a result, the original poster, Community Managers, Trusted Advisors, and Tech Support members all have the ability to mark something as a solution. If you see an obvious solution that hasn't been marked, you can PM the Community Manager with the link and he/she will be happy to mark it. While we try to mark things as we see them, we obviously will miss some.
Thanks! Leslie

Solution proposal
I find the solution as a message to say , "I have a solution for your problem!", for this reason is really import to marking the solution post as a solution. But in case of missing solution marked , I think is better to add a special button to inform the Community Manager about a potential solution. I found many times interesting posts that could be considered as solution.

Paolo

How do I do this?
that is right.. and also
that is right..
and also restrain authors from tagging their own as the solution..
this is not ethical..
thanks..

We allow users to mark their
We allow users to mark their own solution because sometimes you may find something that works yourself. However, to discourage fraud, we do not award you points for your own solution.
Thanks--Hope this helps.

unfortunately....
I am a trusted advisor and have the ability to mark posts as solved and it awards the person that solved the post points. However, sometimes I am both the person that supplied the solution and the person that marks it as solved. When I do this I do not get any points. I then send PM to Swathi who then gives me the points I earned.

Totally agree as well. I would also like to sign up to be PM'd anytime anyone finds a thread that needs to be marked solved. Always appreciate the help : )

Cool, I'll take a look at my posts and see where the guys have said it worked. I expect there are a ton of posts that should be marked as solved for a lot of posters.
Thanks Leslie.
If you find this is a solution, please mark it as such.

I've started to ask guys if what I had said/others had said (because sometimes I am wrong) was a solution. Got 2 awarded already out of about 15 I made a clear list of.
If you find this is a solution, please mark it as such.

I have actually started to go back on the postings I have and asking if there were solutions. Either for myself, or someone else who actually has the solution in place.
It's ridiculous that posts don't get closed off. Those that have basically stated they have their problem solved and don't get back to me will have the URL sent through to an admin and hopefully they will close it off.
If you find this is a solution, please mark it as such.
Be generous in tagging solutions to whom credit is due...
It is a matter of giving the points to the best solutions...
In order for the solutions to come in.. it is our part to give credit where credit is due...
This is how this site works...
thanks...

Mark As Solution
I don't blame on people who forget to mark as solution and just write thanks it worked..because it is not that difficult ( most of the times) to find out whose comment made it work.
For them you can PM the Owner for the post/ TA/Admin/TS and it should be get it done..
But what about those who never come back and say this resolved my issue.

Totally agree vikram. This is the true breakdown of the whole system. It makes it extremely difficult to reward those people who took time out of their days to help others. Maybe a system that sends out reminder emails to those posters who haven't yet marked a solution to their issues? I know this is somewhat of a terrible method, because everyone hates getting annoying emails, but I truly believe that most people either forget once their problem has been solved or don't know that they should mark it as solved. Usually people will be in one of these two groups. I agree that something needs to be done, the solved rate in these forums are actually much higher than they appear because of this.

How about promoting it, i.e. making it more obvious?
Currently, there's only a few grey words at the end of each post saying "Mark As Solution" - make it big'n'bold, make it red, make it flash (not really!), but just make it stand out a bit more.
