It would be nice to be able to load national holidays to make scheduling easier/more accurate.  I realize that this would require some additional coding in the scheduling modules, but would really be nice

I put up this idea earlier, but nobody seems to be interested.

I guess the Symantec forum is to slow to do anything beside that what solves your current problem - it costs nerves to move around here. Additionally: it doesn't work. I voted, but the count shows zero votes.

I like the idea and believe it should be configurable so we can define days as our National Holidays. As this is global product and Holidays would be diferrent in each country.

Hello,

Great suggestion. We have been using the same scheduler in Backup Exec as a common component for a number of years now. They are in need of an update and we are looking to perform an overhaul of the scheduler in our next major release of Backup Exec.

Our goal for holiday schedules is to let customers from any country add or "import" a list of dates to be excluded from normal backup rotation schedules without affecting the normal backup schedules you have defined. Each country and each company has different holidays obviously so we will not be providing a "default" holiday list.

We would ask your help in this in a couple of ways. How would you like to "import" a list of dates easily into the product? From a .csv? From a text file? How would you like the product to handle the holiday skipped dates? Should we run your normally scheduled job at the next opportunity or should we just skip it and move on to the next job your have scheduled or give a choice?

Let us know your thoughts on this. Our engineers do regularly look through these forums and I will be collecting your feedback as well.

If you have interest in participating in upcoming Usability Studies with our Engineers, feel free to let me know that too. We can show you mock-up designs and prototypes.

Thanks again for your time and suggestions......and your continued support of Backup Exec.

Thanks

Peter

You should also consider the iCal format.

Should we run your normally scheduled job at the next opportunity or should we just skip it and move on to the next job your have scheduled or give a choice?

Personally, I would just skip it, but a choice would suit a wider audience.

There is a small wrinkle to this skipping.  I have some jobs scheduled after midnight, so for these jobs, I have to skip the day after the holiday, not the holiday itself.

Simple and clear text file. Just implement an export function so that someone could import all the holidays already entered into one machine into other machines.

Just skip it. It's my job to look what backup job is running the next day. :-)

Regards,

Patrick
