Let reset be an option
Hi,
I was thinking. I've just created an VSA of my Office 2003. Now I imported it and it takes up 1GB of my drive. Now that made me think. Why not make the reset function an option? If I have the option to choose reset for these big applications (next is Visual studio 2005 with 3GB x2) I could save a lot of space on my machine.
I have a couple of suggestions how to integrate this.
1. Leave the reset function out of the personal client. Users at home have instant access to their .VSA files so resetting is just importing. It saves a lot of space. Also users with less disk space (read older hardware) are more eager to try this software because it consumes less of their valuable space. Especially laptop users where the hard drive isn't quickly replaceable.
2. Make the option for reset available on install of SVS agent. So a user has the control once. They just choose to install it or not.
3. Make the option for reset available with importing an archive/creating layer. This would be the best option for me. For the bigger applications you can say don't use reset. With the smaller options you can say do use reset. This can save a lot of space. Only downside of course is that importing is slower than resetting but I'll take that chance if my disk space will be 5 or 6GB more :)
