I would propose a suggestion to create an alternative managment consle than web browser based. In the futur I would like to see a  MMC snap-in management console with a more intuituve structure (like SCCM) which also have better performance than the web based on Altiris.
Both SCCM and Landesk are using management console, why shouldn't Altiris do the same since this would enhance the look and feel for administrators on Altiris products.

It couldn't be worse...

When using SCCM, WSUS, or a variety of other tools, I have no issue with MMC snap-ins. The current system requires all the users of the system to run Internet Explorer (not caring if they use a different default browser) and constantly has issues with the FlexGrid componenets (Remember the IE7 issue where you couldn't right-click - and the one where the compoinent became "unregistered"), long reload times when changing categories, etc. If the console/helpdesk is effectively limiting itself to IE6+, then it can't be a "cross-platform" argument... so why not an MMC console. I dare say it can't be any worse than using IE for management. Just, please, don't even think of making a Java app for this *shudder*.

Management Consoles

Over time, we plan to broaden browser support for the Management Console. With DS 7.1, you will see a portal implemented in Silverlight that will give the portability of a web console with the responsiveness of a Win32 console.

Will our service desk people

Will our service desk people be able to select a few systems from a "Computers"  pane (not in the same group/folder - think "All Computers") and drag/drop them onto a specific, requested, software installation job, then schedule and run? The current web-console needs you to mess around with slow loading pages, building collections etc, before you can assign a task. I can do several requested deployments in the time it takes a skilled web-console user to build their first collection. Please tell me this is sorted now?!
